In 1931 Jean de Brunhoff created Babar.  Jean created a series of stories that told how orphaned forest dweller Babar married, travel, had a family & eventually became King of the elephants.  Laurent de Brunhoff finished off some of his fathers manuscripts after his death in 1937 & wrote many more stories. A TV series was produced by Nelvana which captured the gentle nature of Babar.
